Member Interview: Vantage International Logistics, China

WFN members are highly competent and professional, with a wealth of knowledge and industry experience to share.

With that in mind, we interviewed some of our members to ask for their views on the industry today, plans for the future, and the benefits of networking. We spoke to Ken Xu, Managing Director at Vantage International Logistics in China.

How did you start out in Freight Forwarding?

"I started to engage in the international freight forwarding business in 2000 and served government enterprises and Hong Kong-funded international logistics companies for 10 years. Since 2010, I have been engaged in the development of VTG SCM logistics. Since joining the World Freight Network (WFN) in 2011, the VTG SCM company is no longer limited to the traditional domestic freight forwarding business, but can also use the WFN overseas network resources to provide more customers with more timely and effective international logistics solutions."

Your thoughts on the logistics industry today and how things have changed due to the Pandemic?

"Since the outbreak of COVID-19, we all are facing the need to adapt to a new reality full of challenges, with deep implications for business and employees. It is a difficult time to maintain and deepen customer relations, protect our staff and keep business growth.

The spread of the COVID 19 and its ramifications have grown exponentially, with numerous sailings cancelled or ports omitted. We are doing all possible to support medical suppliers export to oversea destinations including:

1. Irish goverment ventilator charter 
2. British Ministry of Health Mask charter business
3. Temasek medical supplies business."

What are the main challenges facing independent forwarders?

"Since the impact of the epidemic, the global economy and the volume of import & export trade have declined extremely, and the shipping logistics industry has also suffered unprecedented blows. All Members have strengthened information exchange and transformed potential business into real business benefits."

How relevant is networking in today’s forwarding industry?

"As we all know, a high-quality logistics network can give you more logistics information, potential business plans, and help you successfully complete the perfect logistics. With the development of e-commerce logistics, the form of global e-commerce logistics will become more and more obvious. A high-quality network can ensure more logistics informationization, automation, intelligence, and multi-function."

How do you see the future for independent forwarders?

"The era of Internet smart logistics has begun to emerge, and the transformation from traditional transportation to network freight is the first opportunity for the logistics industry to develop. It also indicates the comprehensive development of network freight. More and more logistics companies realise that they must quickly seize the opportunity of network freight."
