Member Interview: SMART China Shipping, China

With that in mind, we interviewed some of our members to ask for their views on the industry today, the benefits of networking, and their comments on the Pandemic. In July, we spoke to Jerry Gao, General Manager at SMART China Shipping in China:

How did you start out in Freight Forwarding?

"I have been working in this industry since 2005, and I just got an offer from one big Chinese national freight company here. This is also the same as my first job after graduation in 2005."

Your thoughts on the logistics industry today and how things have changed due to the Pandemic?

"To be honest, this Pandemic will change lots of things in our life. For this industry, the internet is a big influence, for example online meetings will be launched with conference software, and more modern and AI logistics warehousing will help factories to prepare shipments on time. So we have the chance to improve our company's software, and also a good chance to improve logistics facilities."

What are the main challenges facing independent forwarders?

"We should care more about our clients' finanical situation, improve networking and work on developing more markets, espeically in Asia and South America."

How relevant is networking in today’s forwarding industry?

"It is important, to enlarge our service all over the World." 

How do you see the future for independent forwarders?

"More professional, more distinctive."
