Member Interview: Globe Trekkers Shipping, UAE
WFN members are well experienced in their industry and experts in freight. We took the opportunity to interview several of our members, to gain an insight into both their background, their views on the Pandemic, and their thoughts for the future.
We recently spoke to Douglas Gozmao at Globe Trekkers Shipping & Cargo LLC in UAE:
How did you start out in Freight Forwarding?
"Having come from a Port township area it was inevitable that shipping would become part of my life. I started off with working jobs at the Port and the Steam ship lines way back in 1985 and then moved on the Freight Forwarding and Project cargo handling later."
Your thoughts on the logistics industry today and how things have changed due to the Pandemic?
"The implantation of Block chain technology is surely one of the most prominent trends gaining traction in the global transport and logistic industry. It certainly is expected to increase the efficiency of the transportation and logistics industry, and have a huge impact on warehousing and related activities. With digitalization shaping almost all industries across the globe, the logistic industry is no exception. The Pandemic has certainly almost fast tracked this concept further, and forwarders worldwide will have no choice but to embrace this transformation in the days ahead."
What are the main challenges facing independent forwarders?
"There are quite a few challenges facing the freight industry and primarily among them are:
Changing customer needs. Now logistics solutions must be tailored to customer needs.
On time deliveries. It has become a challenge to provide on time delivery in the logistics industry.
Infrastructure, capacity and security are a few others that will be forces to reckon with."
How relevant is networking in today’s forwarding industry?
"In this context, networking places a vital role in in enabling the small and medium sized forwarders to stay in competition with the big players."
How do you see the future for independent forwarders?
"The future of our industry depends very much on how soon we are able to catch up with the growing trends and how soon we embrace them. In consideration that this is, and always has been, an industry that requires person to person interaction, I feel that there will always be room for a forwarder to sustain, irrespective of how the markets shape up.
Being a part of the WFN for several years has helped us grow as business and it's amazing that we continue to work since inception with a fair deal of partners worldwide in the network.
The WFN is a well organized and wonderful network, well managed and we are very proud to be part of this amazing network. We would certainly recommend them to all those who are keen to join them."
