We recently interviewed Aju Joshua of Cardinal Global Logistics in the UAE:

How did you start out in Freight Forwarding?

"My major in shipping & international marketing and summer interim with a shipping line made it a very interesting field to pick freight and logistics as my career. I worked in different companies (Liner / NVOCC’s / Freight forwarding) with specialisation in project cargo / break bulk cargo. I also handled general cargo / LCL and Hazardous etc...."

Your thoughts on the logistics industry today and how things have changed due to the Pandemic?  

"The pandemic has changed all sectors, with a change in consumer behaviour with up to date digital/online technology, teleconferencing and mode of payments. It will change further in near future."

What are the main challenges facing independent forwarders?  

"The main challenge is to fight the multinationals who have better global contracts with carriers, and more money to finance their business."

How relevant is networking in today’s forwarding industry?

"Networking plays a major role with overseas members to get charges for DDU/DDP/EXWORKS shipments as well as current country  information and sales leads with payment protection. Without networking independent freight forwarder’s cannot do anything beyond their local market."

How do you see the future for independent forwarders?

"I believe the independant freight forwarders future is bright. The freight business will keep changing in order to be an important factor to elevate a new trend of customer /consumer."
